What is the Cohort on Arsenal St?
The Cohort on Arsenal St. is a thirteen month journey designed specifically for Salvation Army folk (officers, soldiers, employees, and friends) who desire to advance their methods of missional leadership.
What is a missional leader?
God has a mission to redeem the world. To meet the challenges and excitement of constant social change, The Salvation Army is charged to lead corps in expanded ways of joining His mission. Missional leaders approach ministry from a coaching or mentoring model -- leading the redeemed toward discovering what God is up to in their community and preparing them for their part in the redemption plan.
WHY A COHORT?
The Urban Mission Center has discovered that Salvationists are looking for expanded methods of advancing God’s mission in Salvation Army neighborhoods. Rather than offer one time development opportunities, the cohort model brings together a community of people who want to develop as missional leaders over an extended period of time. With three gatherings over the course of 13 months, along with mentoring between gatherings, participants will have the space and time to explore expanded methods of leadership. We’ve designed the Cohort on Arsenal St as a supportive and innovative place to work through the joys and struggles of leading.
HOW DOES THE COHORT WORK?
- We’ll gather in St Louis three times over the course of 13 months.
- Cohort groups are intentionally limited to 12 participants.
- Cohort gatherings begin on Monday morning and conclude on Thursday afternoon.
- Each gathering will focus on a specific aspect of missional leadership.
- Between gatherings you will: complete readings and tasks that relate to the cohort content; participate in a cohort conference call; speak periodically with your assigned coach.
